Dear Parents and Staff:
It is my pleasure to welcome you back for another school year! The first day of school is August 19th.
I eagerly look forward to serving you as Garden Valley Principal. With District #8’s rapidly increasing enrollment, Garden Valley will be a K-2 school, offering at least three classrooms per grade. Our third and fourth grade classrooms have been relocated to the new elementary wing at Missouri Ridge School. Two new teachers have been hired and other support staff added.
Your involvement is crucial to educational quality, and I have heard from several of you about wanting to be involved and staying well informed. Your continued participation is warmly welcomed. That’s why I want you to consider joining our PTO.
We plan to continue our tradition of monthly parent/community
meetings/dinners. This is a great opportunity to communicate important information, especially academic progress updates consistent with our improvement plan.
You are cordially invited to attend our Open House (no dinner on this one) on August 15, 2019 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Garden Valley School. Refreshments will be provided. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher. Parent/student handbooks will be distributed, as well as an overview of school procedures and expectations.
By way of reminder, your child’s 8:15 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. school time is vitally important; however, it will be greatly strengthened as the 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. home study time is used wisely for reading and math practice. You are encouraged to have your child read or (read to) chapter books and respond to what is read, in writing on a nightly basis. Our staff and District will make a variety of books available to your children to read at home. Elective, specials classes, including P.E., music, and library research will be offered. Art and
health are taught by our regular teachers.
Music Concerts will be presented during the school year, as I am sure that you enjoyed five great concerts last year. A few musical offerings will be presented at monthly dinners. Buses will serve our school and will begin arriving at 7:35 a.m., and classes will begin at 8:15 a.m. on August 19, 2019. Please do not drop off your children prior to 7:35 a.m., the start of breakfast. Advertised is a list of needed school supplies on the school’s web page. Lists are also available at Walmart. We will feature our activity calendar,
interesting feature articles, awards pictures, and newsletters on our school’s website. Please come in for a visit or call me when you can at 701-826-4261.
